| Tying Tzitzith According to Nusach Sephardi You are about to perform a mitzvah, a holy commandment of your Creator. Before you begin, pray. Ask Him to guide your hands. Ask Him to show you the way and to make your efforts to keep and beautify His mitzvah a success. Compose yourself. Eliminate all possible distractions. At each knot focus upon the book of the Torah that each represents. Likewise, at each winding of the shamash, focus upon the letter of His holy name that you are weaving into your tzitzith. As you begin to tie each corner, make the appropriate brachah or blessing. With white strings only you are not performing the entire mitzvah, so say only the blessing: “L’shem mitzvoth tzitzith”. With tekhelet you may say the brachah: “Baruk atah YHWH Eloheinu melek haolam asher qidshanu b’mitzvotav vitzvanu la’asot tzitzith”. May YHWH bless you greatly as you keep His Torah and mitzvoth!

Step 5. Now you are ready for your first of five sets of double knots, all which will be tied right over left, left over right, so that the left side remains stationary and the right side, the one with the tekhelet, goes back and forth around the left. |
