Made from a secretion of the Murex Trunculus, a sea snail primarily found in the Mediterranean, this blue dye is thought by most to be the true source of the original tekhelet, or biblical blue.
Tekhelet is the Hebrew word for the color used in making the garments of the Kohen ha Gadol (high priest), sections of the mishkan (wilderness tabernacle), and of the p’til tekhelet (thread of blue) in ancient tzitzith. These strings are made of the best pure Merino wool and are of the finest quality available.
