The Karaites have a singular and beautiful style of tying tzitzith all their own. According to their own sound reasoning, the tassel is braided rather than knotted, and with an equal number of blue and white strings. The color of tekhelet is said by them to be a shade of indigo or ancient “Sapphire”, the fabled lapis lazuli, and the same deep blue of the western Asian sky. For certain biblical and linguistic reasons the tzitzith itself appears to be in the shape of a flower blossom and is quite lovely.
Karaite tzitzith come in only one style and are pre-tied with a loop at the top that simply slips through your garment. All include tekhelet.
